January Favourites

January Favourites

It might not be the end of January for another week, give or take a few days, but who says you can only share your favourites at the end of the month? So I’m breaking the mould and giving you my January Favourites a few days early!

The weather this month has been unpredictable. It’s cold but it’s mild at the same time. The sun is shining and there’s not a cloud in the sky. It’s raining but it should be snowing. That’s a lot of scenarios to prepare for. But us Brits are fans of layers, and lots of them. We do well being cozy and wrapping up warm so it should be no surprise that a lot of the favourites for January are things that make me feel comfortable and cozy either and home or work.

Whether it be lounging around in sweatpants and a hoodie or relaxing with a nice candle and LED lighting, there’s something here for everyone. This is not purely a fashion post, it’s categorised as a style post in my eyes – that’s fashion style, home style, lifestyle … style style style.

My style this month is cozy. So here are my cozy January Favourites.

1. Jeans | 2. Sweatpants  | 3. Hooded Sweatshirt | 4. Chukka Boots | 5. Snood
6. Light | 7. Candle | 8. Snapback | 9. Running Shoes

Part of being comfortable in my eyes is saying f*** it to fashion stereotypes. Because of my gym routine I find it hard to get clothes to fit properly because I’m bulkier than I look; tees are difficult because I’ve spent a long time growing my back and shoulder muscles, jeans and trousers aren’t easy because squats have given me a J-Lo bubble butt and leg day has given me large quadriceps and rugby player legs.

Fashion is fluid, the same as sexuality. I’ve always gravitated more towards boys or mens clothes – not only are they cheaper but it’s just so much easier to shop. The bonus is that everything is comfortable and actually fits my athletic build.

The jeans were new this month but the sweatpants listed above are very similar to the ones I’ve lived in the past few days when I’ve been ill. Everyone needs sweatpants in their wardrobe. It’s halfway between being dressed for bed and dressed for the day so you can instantly feel like you’ve achieved something by changing into them – you’ve either had a hard day so now you want to be comfortable, or you’re having a day at home and getting out of bed is the achievement. Throw on a comfortable hooded sweatshirt and you’ve got the ultimate casual attire topped off with a snood for that extra warmth under a coat of your choosing.

Fashion is fluid, the same as sexuality.

My two favourite items from this list are the home accents. The candle from Ikea is possibly my favourite thing right now. It’s scented to smell like Christmas baking so it’s enriched with cinnamon and sweet smells – personally I find it to smell like popcorn which is no bad thing. It’s a nice relaxing scent and the smell of fresh baking is always a cozy scent to have.

The light I picked up in Wilko of all places. I’d had my eye on it for a while and thought it would make a really nice addition to finish off the decorative corner of my bedroom. When this light is the only one on and the room is lit by candles you have a really nice calming atmosphere that happens to smell amazing!

Well there you have it – my January Favourites. Now to start prepping for February …
